Happy holidays from TeraFans and may everybody have fun playing Tera this season. Remember to check into Tera for their Santa's Slay event - hunt down Fat Santa and Tiny Santa in the game to earn holiday gift boxes filled with treats such as Santa Caps, Charms, and Potions.

En Masse is also wishing players a happy holiday in a letter from Catherine 'Minea' Park over on the official site. It's copied below for your convenience. For the tl;dr crowd, make sure to read the last line - it contains a reference to a gift from Tera this year.

Quote

'Dear Community,

We are fast approaching the end of December, and what an exciting year it’s been for TERA! Who could forget the rush during the beta tests and the sleepless nights through our launch? In late August, the arrival of the Argon Queen brought the Fraywind Canyon battleground, new skills, several instances, and the Nexus Traverse. We’ve also worked on various improvements based on our community’s feedback, such as enchanting and battleground tweaks, not to mention the fun we’ve had in the seasonal activities and community events. My personal favorites so far have been announcing the Halloween costume contest winners in Pora Elinu and playing hide-and-seek with you guys in Cutthroat Harbor. Of course, watching the Canyon Clash matches with everyone in the office holding their breath at each crucial moment was another highlight!

While all these community events have zoomed by, we are excited to shareTERA’s upcoming content for the next few months. First, we have the Crucible of Flame, which will offer better rewards based on the difficulty you select and your efficiency in clearing the dungeon. For our PvP fanatics, Champions’ Skyring, the new three-on-three battleground, will be coming. Consumable item use is not allowed in this elite battleground and the best players will go against each other using the Elo rating system.

In addition to the Crucible of Flame and Champion’s Skyring, two new reputation factions will vie for your attention, and there will be meaningful tweaks to existing systems—more specifically, crafting and gathering will be streamlined and simplified a bit by decreasing the amount and number of different ingredients needed to craft among other changes. Naturally, we’re also planning smaller changes such as class-related tweaks. TERA is a living MMO that continually improves, after all. We anticipate that you’ll be playing these new features and content early next year, and we will share more detailed information in the next few weeks as we finalize them.

Lastly, we’d like to thank our community for your feedback, passion and support for TERA this year. We look forward to sharing another exciting year with you! Happy holidays!

Best,

Catherine ‘Minea’ Park

P.S.: The little santas from Santa’s Slay have sent a small bonus gift for the holidays! Entering the code [slaysanta] before 11:59 p.m. PST on January 2, 2013 will deliver a box of tiny treasure and fat loot for you in Item Claim!

Cheers,

Nobody

As reported on the official site for Tera, sixteen teams across three servers will compete for the first-place title, achievement, and 150,000 gold in this weekend’s Canyon Clash.

Each Canyon Clash participant will receive a door prize—just for showing up to compete—including a William Tell 2-pack and a glitzy festival mask. These items will be delivered on Tuesday, November 13 to all players who participate in the tournament.

The tournament will stream live from the updated Canyon Clash event page beginning at 11 a.m. PST, this Saturday, November 10. On the event page, you can find the full event schedule, learn more about competing teams in the team info tab, and follow your favorite team’s progress in the bracket tab. The first-, second-, and third-place winners will be posted in the results tab on Sunday after the final showdown.

The event page is currently showing missing pages for me, so hopefully that will be updated soon.

Earlier today, Curse was notified by Google that there was a script known to be malicious being served though some of our sites. Upon further inspection, Curse has determined the script was being served through ad placements from a 3rd party. These ads were being served as they normally would; however, due to a security breach at the 3rd party, a malicious script in JavaScript was being served that was put in their passback system.

We have managed to identify the 3rd party, whom is well known to be trusted, as the source of the script. They have been contacted about the compromise and have removed the malicious script being served to not only Curse, but possibly everyone with whom they work. They are still investigating the breech.

Curse takes security extremely seriously and has removed all 3rd party ad partners until the investigation is complete. We will keep you informed of the outcome of this investigation. In the meantime, we recommend you run a malware scan on your computer. You can run a free scan at http://www.malwarebytes.org/. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

There has been a Q&A session with at the Raptr Site for Tera. A synopsis of the questions and the answers is shown below for your convenience.

  • StarOracle: Hey EME, thanks for coming out and doing this Q&A with the players. As a level 60 warrior, my biggest pet peeve is having to go to a major city in order to switch my Glyphs. I have Glyph setups for Edge based DPS, non-Edge DPS, Tanking, Mobbing, and BAM soloing, but it's really annoying to have to go back to a major city and manually select all the glyphs again. Has your team put any thought into adding Glyph presets to make switching easier, or to make this accessible via smaller towns/outputs, or even through some sort of Glyph Reset Scroll? I'm fine with the price of the glyph reset it's just a bother going to a major town every time I want to change.

Minea answers: Warrior class is a bit special this way, and making the glyph switch easier is certainly an interesting idea. We'll keep it in mind.

  • Nineoneone: Wondering if Low level quests will become available for lvl 60s. There are several achievements that can't be completed due to outleveling the quest or gquest needed for achievement requirement.

Minea answers: This is a good point and we'll mention it in our discussions with BHS.

  • Virginity 1). I appreciate that enchanting has gotten an increased chance of success(though i still seem to be struggling in comparison to the lucky ones), but i was wondering if there has been any discussion of increasing the chance to masterwork an item??...i've used A TON of scrolls over the past few months and have only been able to masterwork one item a few months ago...incidentally i'm still using that outdated item because i can't get ANY of my other gear to masterwork...its gotten extremely frustrating.

2). There is no question that this game is severely 'grind' oriented...you can't get anything good without giving up a huge amount of your time...while GVG's are fun in open world...they ruin nexus...with the horrible lag and zerg guilds it can be impossible to get any points, or sometimes get enough stacks to even enter the Traverse...this often ends with me extremely angry that i gave up my time(especially my weekends) to have some guild decide that they are going to shut out another smaller guild completely from the nexus because they have the numbers advantage...is anything going to be done about this? I joined a pvp server because i enjoy pvp, but this is something i didn't expect and am very dissapointed with. it's gotten bad enough that im playing guildless so i can get my points

3). The battleground is fun(though i can't wait for new maps), but all too often lately(nearly every time) we get matched with people from the huge zerg guilds on our server...they're gear is better(props to them for being able to win so much), but when you constantly get pounded into the ground by the same people with significantly better gear than you...it sucks the fun right out of it...is there a plan to try to group players by gear level or some sort of equalization? i have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game and i want to continue to do so...but my patience has been wearing thin on these issues and could end up causing me(and im sure others) to leave for hopefully greener pastures if something isn't done...i can handle a grind for gear...but some of these things make the grind WAY harder and more time consuming than it needs to be...

Minea answers: 1) Currently masterworking doesn't have a plan to be changed, but as always and all aspects of the game, we are monitoring our community feedback and looking at the game data. 2) We are working for a way to improve nexus experience and there will always be a difference between numbers in different guilds. We understand it can be frustrating, but maybe some sort of alliance can be made/utilized? We'll continue to monitor this though. 3) We're aware of this feedback and we're always brainstorming how to improve our bg's, so we'll continue to work on it.

  • Tetron: Hello, I love about how Tera is so far and its gameplay since Open Beta (definitely feels like I'm in the battle and not standing around and looking at skills). Now while playing through contents to level 60, I noticed one thing that i believe makes it a turn off for a good number of gamers. This would be the quests in Tera. The "kill x and bring y items" nomenclature that many asian MMOs are fond of. I'm wondering if you are planning on making the quests more dynamic and interesting instead of the ole blantant grinding of quests to bring more people into the game? I personally believe making the quest interesting will defintiely bring old and new plaeyrs (heck even GW2 people who got bored) back in.

Minea answers: Hello Tetron, I think TERA's strength is its action combat and that's what differentiates TERA from other MMO's, not quests. This would be something that we'd like to work on but currently don't have a concrete plan for.

  • elpha: Please tell me Lancers will be able to throw their shields in the future like captain america? C:

Treeshark answers: The lack of vibranium and adamantium in Tera would make this significantly difficult.

  • vcat: Do you guys intend on releasing PVP to the lower levels (battlegrounds) as well as to the higher levels at some point?

Answer: Open world PVP, as you know, is starting from level 11+. There are currently no plans to change the battleground level restriction, however.

  • Hi Tisrheia here and thank you for the opportunity to play such an awesome game with such extraordinary graphics. I particularly enjoy exploring the environment in Tera and I have noticed in my travels that there are many "hard to get to" spots in Tera---so hard in fact, that it take a good bit of skill to reach them, yet these areas seem planned and not incidental. However, I never find anything there except for a great view! Is there any chance that there may be an easter egg type reward in such places as a future event or new content in an expansion? (I would personally like to see a scavenger hunt of epic proportions with difficult puzzle-type clues for people to work out over time to find the correct locales.) Even a small reward would delight die-hard explorers such as myself and might engage more players in immersing themselves more into this splendid environment you have created for us to play in. Thanks again for your time and please pass along my compliments to your graphics folks! XD

Minea answers: Hello Tisrheia, I think it's a wonderful idea and will certainly keep that in mind for future events! Thanks! :)

  • LynxFuzz: Hi Im Lynx! My question is to keep up with the MMO mayhem we all know that everyone is trying to out make and out better everyone game development wise. So are you going to release anything for the Innerwear slot that we have all had since beta? We would also like to know if you guys would like to go down the road of Aion and release pets! Thank you so much for your time!

Minea answers: Hello Lynx, currently we don't have any information on the innerwear slot or pets to share.

  • Separator: Will we be seeing the Agnitor and Bellicarium credits be reduced like in KTERA anytime soon? Getting PVP gear on my alt has been quite painful.

Answer: We're looking into getting this into the NA market.

  • nevadadimitri: My apologies if this has been asked. Are there plans to implement an add-on system? One of my "hobbies" during my WoW days was creating mini-games and other fun add-ons. It would certainly add more variety to TERA. It'll be exciting to see what the community comes up with.

Minea answers: Those mini games were fun. :) I agree that it'll add more variety but currently we don't have a plan for TERA to support add-ons.

  • ShAgGy: Are there any plans to improve the state of nexus? As a whole i think the game is great, but the nexus was really dissappointing from an in-game quality of life point of view since its the best way(or only) to aquire agnitor rep and credits. Is BHS aware of the our general discontent on nexus and planning on improving this in some way? or is it just working as intended, and should I accept that it is?

Minea answers: Treeshark answered a very similar question below: "Treeshark: The nexus situation is something we're working on. By this, I mean that we are trying to address the issue with the client trying to render too many things, as well as the requirements."

  • samgzl: Hey En Masse! I was just wondering what race and class do each of you play? I perfer Castanic Mystic. Even though it does seem that Mystics are not as good as Priests at level 60, they are still a very fun and unique class compared to healers in other games. Thank you for all your hard work in making Tera the best it can be!

Treeshark answers: I play a Baraka warrior. Playing the nimble class with a huge castle is fun :). I don't think Baraka's get the love they deserve.

Minea answers: Some of the mains I have/had are castanic slayer, popori berserker, high elf mystic, human priest, elin archer, amani lancer, and castanic sorcerer. ^_^;; Currently it's mostly high elf mystic and human priest though.

  • MeatheadMilitia: What is your favorite Doughnut? What kind of food and drink do you consume while working in the office or late night sessions? Sweats in pubic, is it okay?

Treeshark answers: I prefer the plain or glazed donut. There is a local donut shop here that has a french toast donut that is pretty good too. Food will always vary around here since Seattle has a lot of choices, but drink is mostly coffee/coke/water. Typo or not, sweats are not ok.

Minea answers: Plain cake donuts, powdered and glazed ones. Diet soda or iced coffee, but lately I've been drinking matcha (powdered green tea) to keep up with the early birds and the nightowls in our community. I really need to start drinking heavily though. They say drinking lots of water is good for you. ;) No..

  • Eziel: En Masse closed beta 1 player here and avid Tera lover! Being a Vanarch and founder of one off the best guilds (NSMBacon), what are your plans to address the guild management system? Right now there is no way to give the guild to another member while Vanarch. Additionally no way to give an officer full Guild Access while on vacations or prolonged time away from Tera. Prime example our current GM is moving from overseas to the states and will be away for 2 weeks.

Khalith: Actually if your GM puts in a ticket and talks to live support they can pass GM despite the person being a vanarch according to them when a similar issue happened to my guild.

Answer: @Eziel This is a problem we're very aware of, and some thing we're looking to add. At this time, however, this will have to be governed case by case by our support team.

  • Cristhiancrc: I don't really know anything about this game, but I see a few videos... And this game look so amazing, the graphics and the game play... It is wonderful... But... Because I'm a Latino american, I don't know if some day I'll be able to play this game... So... Latin americans can play this game on the future?

Minea answers: Actually our community is quite diverse, check out our subforum here: http://tera-forums.e...orums/languages

  • benhesitation: LOVE all the things Tera has to offer and the look of the game. Here's a burning question I've had for a while. When will the game support multiple monitor set ups?

Treeshark answers: We do support multiple monitor setups. A few of us play on the eyefinity setups.

  • AccidentalChaos: One of the most intriguing aspects of TERA for me was the inclusion of game pads as a method of control; something few MMO's offer (I can only think of FFXI and PSO). What brought about the idea to implement them in the game, and did anything have to change to add them in (balancing, etc)?

Treeshark answers: Using a gamepad to control offers (i feel) a deeper immersion in the combat and allows you to play TERA similar to other action games on the console. A few things had to change to implement, the one that comes to mind is which direction your skills will be aimed (character facing or camera facing).

  • InvaderRJ: Any chance of seeing an unlimited time but level capped trial in the future? Id like to give it a go before I buy but find that I cannot set aside 7 straight days in which to give it a fair shake.

Answer: We're working on this. Stay tuned.

  • Levey: Hi En masse, has BHS told you anything about the mystery new class they plan to add to tera? If so, are you able to release any information about it? Thanks!

Treeshark answers: We don't have any knowledge or plans of a new class.

  • CloudStrife37: Will Tera ever come to home consoles? PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or Wii U?

Answer: Currently we don't have any immediate plans to bring TERA on consoles.

  • AngryCanuckGamer: With the action RPG stype MMO segment growing, including free-to-play, what advantages do you see that Tera has versus some of these new offerings?

Treeshark answers: Regardless of their business model, I think Tera's combat system is still the most fun to play. We know it's not perfect, but we're always looking at ways to keep making it better. BAM fights still remain fun for me despite having done so many the past few years in working on the game. Battlegrounds also offers me a good way to see how I work in a team vs solo. (And yes, we'll be addressing those who drop out).

  • Treetrunks: So seeing as Mystics seem to have/still are being highly ignored, my question for you guys is if you plan to release any future buffs/fixes to the Mystic?

The only thing we really have going for us at this point is our mana regen aura and our crit rate auras. Priest continues to receive buffs when not needing any fixes really and even has better beneficial stats on their class specific tier 14 gear than the Mystic does... quite troublesome really.

I was hoping to at least possibly see some minor things that would benefit mystic done in the future. Such as maybe a backstep or a retreat skill added, since as of right now all Mystic has is tele jaunt and it tends to "rubberband" a lot... and once that's on cooldown you're pretty much out of luck if it failed and you need to move away ASAP. Making hp orbs give health instantly back instead of regening over time would also be a lovely change for when I need that health for myself ASAP (it already heals for a lot less than a priest's self heal as it is and let's face it we can't spam the heck out of our healing fairy like a priest can their self heal cause of cooldown, so picking up our own vital orbs + the small 10% health back for every one casted glyph is our only other option for selfheal and it still gives back a lot less than priest...). A minor healing boost of some sort would also be nice for Mystic's to get us more balanced with Priest, nothing crazy because obviously we're not just primarily heal like a Priest but at least a boost that makes a difference in the heal performance of Mystic's in a group.

Ah I could go on for awhile... :) but I'll leave it at those few things. Hope to hear if you guys have any future plans of fixing/balancing for the Mystic.

Minea answers: Hello, fellow mystic! :) Class balance is always being looked at to see if there is room for improvement and it's the same with TERA. We are aware that there is some concerns on certain classes from our different feedback sources (including the mystic) and this is being looked at.

  • kuyashii: Will all future cash shop items continue the current trend of being bind on pick up with no in game method of obtaining them?

Treeshark answers: Some of the items sold in the past were BoP, but the items up right now should be BoE. Sometimes we do have in-game methods of obtaining the items, usually through event drops. Like right now, in the Halloween Event there will be chances that the Boneshaker Mount will drop.

Minea answers: So far that has been a general trend but we've also been tweaking a bit, implementing many opportunities in getting the items through various events/promotions whether in game or on web (contests, socials, etc.), and we've gotten some really good feedback on what our players want and like. The Masquerade Mayhem event is a good example of the mix (both on how to get/earn the items and BoE/BoP aspects) and we'll continue paying attention to what our community wants.

  • Mirano: I DEMAND to know what happened to my poor citizens of Balderon. And as Baldera's Phantom Vanarchian Witch I'd like to know where they are.

Minea answers: Our writing team says "You're not alone. The rest of the Valkyon Federation would very much like to know what's happening in Balderon. Maybe once the argons aren't a threat..."

  • Maloon: When will there be a Unicorn mount? (preferably with rainbows out the butt) :3

Treeshark answers: We'll have some mounts coming out that are similar to what you've seen, but also some that are completely different. However, I don't think any of them have rainbows out the butt.

  • Khalith: Your writers did an excellent job expanding the lore on the website with the provinces! Will you be adding more? Specifically, more lore about the enemies we fight? I'd love to know more about the BAM races and bosses we fight!

Minea answers: Our writing team responds "That's a great idea! We must balance our website writing with our in-game writing, but that doesn't diminish the greatness of your idea. I can't promise a "check back Tuesday" or anything, but we're poring over our schedules right now."

  • Guy-kun: Are there any more plans to add new raids and more end-game content?

Answer: Yes. We're constantly planning new content for all level areas, and are working on some multi-group end game content (both instanced and persistent world). It will be in a larger future content patch, but I can't say when yet (NA doesn't have an exact schedule.)

  • Nymi_nya: Are there plans to introduce more Roleplay support? Features such as walking animations, tabs to include personalized character information, more costumes ect?

Minea answers: This is on our want-to-do list and although we've been able to separate the RP server and get the /emote for the community, we've also been focusing on features that has an impact in gameplay itself. Some of the examples would be the changes in enchanting, BG score tweaks, working on nexus, etc. At the moment we don't have an immediate plan for the specific features mentioned in the question, but these requests are certainly not forgotten.

  • rvbarton: Could you please implement a /rude gesture? This would be an invaluable emote as it could precisely describe one's feelings towards another! I feel that effective communication is VITAL to gameplay!

Treeshark answers: We can request one, but there is currently a /mad. The /e also allows for more creativity but no gestures.

  • Yoka: Playing Nexus in its current state is akin to watching a really bad stop motion video. The rest of the game plays fine with my video settings on preset 4, but preset 0 + Nexus = ugly and unplayable. Are there any plans to address this or perhaps remove this requirement to enter raids?

Treeshark answers: The nexus situation is something we're working on. By this, I mean that we are trying to address the issue with the client trying to render too many things, as well as the requirements.

  • SvDKILLSWITCH: Are there plans to introduce servers into different regions in the future?

Minea answers: Currently we don't have a plan to introduce regional servers.

  • kai421: Although I believe TERA still has a few things to fix internally, balance etc, I have a question on the 'glamour' of TERA. Will TERA ever get Pets (with a purpose or not?), houses (guild, vanarch, personal), or more?

Another question. Now that crafting doesn't really require much effort or Materials, will EME be adding in a component that makes these Mats we so often get (and gathering) necessary? Is there a use for them?

And my last question. It's an idea I had. Ever think of selling a mount that can mount up in all instances? Ofc that could lead to people trying to skip most the instance, etc. But you could keep the trash mobs following them all throughout, etc. I think it be a big seller.

Treeshark answers: Mounting up in all instances can actually lead to some abuse (see: Shandra Manaya).

  • UltraJesus: Will we be seeing some new battlegrounds maps or gamemodes anytime soon?

Treeshark answers: Yes, there are new battlegrounds (3v3s, 5v5s) which will be coming down the pipeline. They go live in KR soon, and we are working with BHS to bring that over to the NA market but there is no ETA yet. They won't be a cap style map like the current 15v15 and focused more on team deathmatches. The Battlegrounds Tournament coming up on November 10th/11th will have gear equalization. If that bodes well we could also see something like that implemented in the future as well.

  • Getsu: Dedicated in TERA Why do we need a party? I should be able to take on BAM solo (sometimes I can). Why wont you implement a dynamic reaction for BAMs with the variable being how many players are attacking it?

Why dont you support your gamepad fully? I think, NONE, of your support team use the gamepad. And if you really want the title of "action rpg" then your game should be better played with the gamepad.

Why wont they bring monster hunter online to the rest of the world!!?

Minea answers: The general idea is that all classes can solo BAM's but not all of the BAM's. Depending on the class and play style, there will always be mobs that are easier or harder. Hm, implementing scalable difficulty/reaction for BAM's is an interesting idea. :)

  • Fayrie: Does enmasse plan on elaborating on tera lore in our version of the game? I hope I'm not the only fan wanting to know more about the world our characters live in, and our version of the game seems to lack a lot of the lore presented in k-tera.

Minea answers: Our writing team responds "We're always keen to add more lore--both in game and out of game. The trick with in-game lore, of course, is making sure it doesn't interrupt your gameplay. Right now we're working on a content update that will advance the main storyline and change the world of TERA dramatically. You can count on learning much more about the world you live (and play!) in."
