"What Does Frogster Publishing TERA in Europe Mean to Me?" En Masse's official response to the Frogster news.

So, here is my question that I posted
"Scapes mentioned in this post that we could ask questions, and in my skimming of the fourteen or so pages, I noticed this question asked, but not yet answered. So, I shall add mine to pile;
Will players located in the EU be able to purchase a US copy of the game, and play on US servers? Does En Masse plan to block non US ip's from connecting to US servers.
I appreciate En Masse may not make the game directly available to people in the EU, but there are ways to get ahold of a US copy.
This was a similar concern with Aion and other mmos. So far games like WoW, WaR, Aion, AoC... have all made it possible for people from the EU to play on the US servers with a US copy of the game. AoC was the best at this because you could actually get the game directly from them, for whatever region you wanted to play in.
It's important to mention this does not just affect EU nationals, but also US citizens and military personal that are for whatever reason, not on the continental US.
Thank you.
P.S> I do like that the official forums are not going to be separated, this was a big problem for WaR, who used a (very bad) third party to publish their game in Europe, and had very restricted forums."

I'm from the UK and they don't really ban games with blood unless it's really graphic like manhunt 2 (ban was eventually lifted though)
Tera is also rated 18+ so some countries with stricter laws may ban it due to 'blood''gore''nudity'(which is a LOAD OF BULL).
I seriously hope they don't mess with the castanics because if they do I will REALLY be miffed.

sure but only if frogster looks at each country on its own... what happens if they feel lazy and generalize the game. what i mean is they will look at the country with the strictest rules and make all other client in Europe the same... that way they save on time.... that would be very very very unfortunate...

What that means is the game and it's content will remain the same be it published in Korea, America, or Europe. As Logarn said, with the blood issue it's all about location anyway - if En Masse had published in Europe they would have had to type bloodspatter=0 instead of bloodspatter=1 in the .ini file themselves, so the publisher really has nothing to do with local rules.
What it does mean is that regardless of publisher, you won't see Castanics or any other race looking different from one version of the game to the other. If 18+ games are banned in your area, this one will be too. You won't get a Castanic half-covered by black blocks in your one region.
Hope that helps some of the confusion!

There is a lot lot lot more behind this deal. And we'll NEVER know, why, cause business is done behind closed doors. Who knows maybe BHS owns 49% of the shares of Frog, maybe this or maybe that, we'll never know!

Well said, i want to feel optimistic about frogger being better than they were. Maybe if they have a steady income from subscribers and bluehole have their backs they might pull it off. Hopefuly they will get decent servers. Has it been stated if they will have 24 hour support like en masse? hopefuly it's a requirement from bluehole that they have this feature.

One thing I could think of (as someone that comes from the IT field) is that the Frogster staff's payment would be less than in other countries in the EU due to the effect of the f.crisis? No idea tbh

Its possible they will be better this time around, thats true. But its silly to think they were not making money before. Even F2P games make money somehow, be it with ads, MT's, or whatever other method, they make money and its from its players. Obviously they didnt really care back then. Even though they stand to make more with TERA there is no reason to believe they'll likely do a better job this time around.
Also its very possible Blue Hole and/or EnMasse didnt do their homework very well before signing the contract. Why would you assume they did? All Frogster would need is a good sales pitch and enough zero's in their sales figures and they can convince any business theyre the right choice. Ive no idea why anyone would think "Blue Hole/Enmasse wouldnt do this without good reason" when we dont have any real experience with them yet. For all we know they can be worse than NCSoft or Frogster.

I don't.The only experience I have with Frogster was on Spellborn, and it was supposed to be their first P2P mmo. And they failed horribly. Although the servers didn't suffer from any kind of lag, but it would have been quite surprising knowing there were maybe 20 characters playing simultaneously.
So yes I'm afraid, but yea I still hope they'll do better this time. I would hate to see another game with innovative combat gameplay fail because of Frogster at a time where I believe MMOs need new ideas badly.
